Lawyers put a time-table for Lockerbie agreement
Libya-USA, Politics, 6/25/2003
A message by Libya's lawyers sent to the families of victims of the Pan American plane explosion in 1988 said that the lawyers of the two sides agreed to choose a bank by July 3rd in order to deal with the compensations amounting to 2.67 billion dollars.
In the message Krindler And Krindler law establishment in New York said that Libya is expected to deposit the compensations at a special account at the central Bank of England or the International settlement bank in Bal, Switzerland.
The date is part of a timetable which will result in lifting the sanctions imposed on Libya by the UN in 1992 to force it to hand two Libyans accused of planning to blow off "Pan American" plane over Lockerbie town in Scotland and this resulted in killing 270 persons.
The UN suspended the sanctions after Libya handed over the two men but Libya wants the sanctions to be lifted ultimately. One of the accused persons was convicted and the second was found not guilty.
