Damascus's international forum for human resources development
Syria-Regional, Politics, 6/25/2003

The World Forum of the Human Resources Development opened its session yesterday at Umayyad Conferences Palace in the outskirts of Damascus.

Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Mohammed al-Hussein talked about the modernization process in Syria under the leadership of President Bashar al-Assad that aims at developing all aspects in Syria.

He added that according to the economic reform direction, a balanced program able to activate the economic development, social care system and to develop administrational reform and personnel training was adopted.

"Developing human resources is not the aim of the government alone but it needs to unify all exerted efforts of the governmental and private sectors" al-Hussein said.

Al-Hussein, who was representing the prime minister, asserted the importance of achieving democracy, transparency, and equality of opportunities. He stressed the importance of this forum because it highlighted a very sensitive and important issue which is the human resources development since the most important kind of investment is the investment of the human resources.

He indicated that the forum constitutes an important opportunity to expertise and experiences exchange in the field of human resources development between the Arab and foreign countries and to put a national and political strategy for developing the human resources.

For his part Minister of Higher Education Hassan Reshih stressed the importance of human resources development referring to the necessity for possessing very progressive human resources which constitutes the heart of information capital.

For his part, the Secretary of the Syrian National Committee of the ISESCO Ali Rahal affirmed the importance of developing human resources in order to achieve economic prosperity.

"The human resources development is an integrated and a correlative process connected with the good investment of natural resources" he said.

It is worth mentioning that experts, specialists and intellectuals in the field of human resources development from Syria, Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon, Egypt, Libya, Finland, France, U.S., Britain, German and Canada participate in the three-days forum.
