Germany, Lebanon for reactivating ME peace

Lebanese President Emil Lahoud has called the European Union to play a wider role to revive the peace process in the Middle East on all tracks.

During his meeting with German Minister of Foreign Affairs, Joschka Fischer, Lahoud made it clear that Lebanon stresses the necessity of providing positive atmospheres that run with the current movements in the region, firstly halting the Israeli aggressions against the unarmed Palestinian People.

On his part and following the meeting, Fischer stressed that the peace process should include Syria and Lebanon. He called on solving all the unsettled issues in the Middle East indicating that the international community wants prevailing just and comprehensive peace in the region.

Later in the day Fischer arrived in Damascus in a visit to Syria. In statement to reporters, Fisher expressed happiness to visit Syria. The situation in the region, post war Iraq, the Roadmap to peace and issues of mutual concern are to be discussed during the visit.
