Provisional release of Mustafa and Mahmoud Bakry; arrests of Muslim brothers
Egypt, Politics, 6/24/2003

The Cairo criminal court yesterday sentenced the release of the two press journalists after accepting the appeal submitted in an earlier verdict to jail them for one year.

The court stated to stop the implementation of the sentence temporarily until deciding on the appeal submitted by the court to retry the two journalists, the chief editor of the independent "al-Osbo" Mustafa Bakry and his brother Mahmoud, the weekly's chief editor.

Meantime, the General Guide of Ikhwan al-Muslimin ( Muslim Brothers) group Ma'moun al-Huseibi said that 11 members were arrested while they were holding a meeting to the north of Cairo.

The police confirmed the arrest to have taken place on Saturday evening in al-Mansoura quarters in al-Daqahliya to the north of Cairo, noting that these arrests targeted 10 officials in the group.

The police explained that ten persons were targeted in the group.

The police explained that the ten persons were arrested because of the attempt made by the group to revive its activity and convene a meeting for a banned organization. The police said they seized documents, publications and computer sets in the house where the meeting was held.
