Secretary of ruling party in Mauritania arrested

Mauritania police yesterday arrested the secretary of the ruling party Mahmoud Weld Hammadi in the context of the current investigations to find out the persons befhind the failed coupe in Mauritania which took place on June, 8.
Hamdi's wife told journalists that the police broke into the house on Saturday evening and detained her husband who is considered a relative to the former army officer Saleh Weld Hanana, the main accused of making of the failed coupe.
Hamdi's wife said that the police addressed no accusations justifying the arrest of her husband who is considered the main political official in the ruling party in Nouakchott.
The Mauritania police had earlier interrogated the chairman of the former higher court Mahfouz Weld al-Murabet and the female secretary for woman's affairs after they were removed from their posts in relation to the coupe attempt. The two said officials also from Hanana family. The authorities, however, are still searching for the fleeing maker of the coupe and 8 of his associates.
