Mrs. Mubarak opens Arab-African conference legislation, female circumcision

Egypt's First Lady Suzanne Mubarak, head of the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood consultative committee opens Saturday the Arab-African conference on legislation and female circumcision.

The conference is held with the participation of 28 Arab, African and Mediterranean countries and is organised in cooperation with the European committee, the Italian Agency for women and Development and the Egyptian Society for protection against practices harming women and children health.

Meanwhile, the Council Secretary General Moshira Khattab said that Al-Azhar Grand Sheikh Mohamed Sayed Tantawi will take part in the conference inaugural session.

She added that during the conference first day, the programme for combatting Female circumcision will be reviewed.

Khattab added that during the conference second day the participants will discuss legislations as a mean to change social behavior while during the third day they will review reports on suggestions on the legislation strategy and female circumcision.
