Peru backs political solution to Sahara issue
Morocco-Peru, Politics, 6/21/2003
Peru on Friday said it backs a political solution to the Sahara issue, a solution that preserves Morocco's territorial integrity and protects the welfare of the inhabitants of the region.
This came in a release made public in Rabat at the end of a four-day visit by Peruvian External Relations Minister, Allan Wagner Tizon, to Morocco.
Rabat and Lima decided to establish a strategic association revolving around enhancing cooperation in political and diplomatic realms, spurring trade and investments and promoting tourism and cultural exchanges.
Wagner Tizon was received by King Mohammed VI to whom he handed a message from the Peruvian President. He also conferred with several Moroccan officials, including foreign affairs and cooperation minister, Mohamed Benaissa.
Morocco and Peru signed during the visit three cooperation accords dealing with trade, tourism and agriculture.
According to the release, Morocco and Peru agreed to serve as gateways for each other in their respective regions.
Moroccan business and professional delegations are scheduled to visit Peru to explore partnership ties with the Latin American nation in agriculture and fisheries.
