Opening of the Exhibition Artists in town at Maktab Anbar, Damascus

The opening of the Exhibition "Artists in town" yesterday at Maktab Anbar marks the launch of the 2003 Cultural Season of the Delegation of the European Commission in Syria, organized by Ecume, association for cultural exchanges in the Mediterranean.

Twelve artists from nine European and Mediterranean countries, including 4 Syrians, reveal to the public the fruit of ten days of side by side work. The exposition will remain open till 10 July 2003.

The program will continue on Monday 23 June with an encounter with Adonis. For one week, the public will have the opportunity to discover the multiple aspects of Adonis' Poetry and thinking:

23 June at 21h30 at Azem Palace in Damascus, Recital of Poetry by Adonis, accompanied by Imad Milki (Oud);

24 June at 18h00 at the French Cultural Center of Damascus, "Crossed Readings," with Alain Jouffroy;

25 June at 18h00 at Al Assad Library of Damascus, Round Table on "Adonis, Poet and Thinker," in his presence;

26 June at 21h30 at Madrasat al Chibani in Aleppo, Jazz concert of Francesco d'Errico Trio, accompanied by readings of Adonis's poetry;

27 June at 18h00 at IFPO of Damascus, Meeting with Adonis (upon invitation only);

28 June at 21h30 at Azem Palace in Damascus, Jazz concert of Francesco d'Errico Trio, accompanied by readings of Adonis's poetry; The summer cultural activities will close on July 3rd at Azem Palace in Damascus (at 20h00), with a musical evening for the young people: rap music, hip-hop and electronic music with the bands MBS, U-CEF and Soap Kills.

Plastic Arts, Music, Poetry and debates are all different expressions with one common goal: the enhancement of the cultural dialogue and exchanges between Europe and Syria.

All activities will be accompanied by workshops with Syrian young people. Meeting again in September for the continuation of the Cultural Dialogue.
