Morocco, Peru sign three cooperation accords
Morocco-Peru, Economics, 6/19/2003

Morocco and Peru signed in Rabat on Wednesday three cooperation agreements in trade and agriculture.

The accords were signed at the end of talks between Moroccan foreign affairs and cooperation minister, Mohamed Benaissa, and Peruvian minister of external relations, Allan Wagner, who arrived on Tuesday to Morocco for a four-day visit.

The first accord deals with reinforcing trade of goods and services, encouraging investments and creating joint ventures. A joint trade commission will follow up the implementation of the accord, evaluate bilateral trade and draw up measures likely to boost trade exchanges and settle related differences.

The second accord, signed between the two countries' agricultural institutions, aims to develop joint agricultural projects.

The third accord was signed between the Moroccan Center of Exports' Promotion to reinforce bilateral cooperation and contribute to the development of trade and economic exchanges between Morocco and Peru. The accord also aims to identify business opportunities, facilitate professional contacts and acquaint economic operators with the two countries' markets.

Moroccan foreign affairs and cooperation minister, Mohamed Benaissa, urged the private sector to contribute to the materialization of the accords signed.

Benaissa underlined the importance of such agreements with Peru, recalling that it was the first South American country to withdraw recognition of the so-called Sahrawi republic.

The Peruvian minister, Benaissa went on, reiterated during talks the legitimate rights of Morocco over its southern provinces and hoped that the question be resolved in a framework that is in par with its legitimate rights.
