US forces open fire at Iraqi demonstrators; Three US soldiers, three Iraqis killed
Iraq-USA, Politics, 6/19/2003

Three American soldiers were killed yesterday in Baghdad, one of them was in a fire shooting from a car in downtown of Baghdad while another was wounded according to an American military spokesman.

The two other Americans were killed while they were guarding a fuel station to the south of the capital by a mortar fire. Thereby some 52 American troops have been killed in Iraq in attacks or incidents, since the beginning of May when President George W. Bush announced the end of military operations in Iraq.

On the other hand, the US occupation forces yesterday opened fire at Iraqi demonstrators in front of the headquarters of the American forces in Baghdad. Protesters said the soldiers killed by bullets three demonstrators and wounded other two. The demonstrators said that the killed and wounded were taken inside the headquarters of the American forces in Baghdad which was previously a presidential complex.

The demonstrations were led by hundreds of Iraqi soldiers, angered by the decision taken in May by Paul Bremer, the US administrator of Iraq, to sack the armed forces of the toppled regime of Saddam Hussein.

Bremer's plans to eliminate Saddam's Baathists regime resulted in sacking almost 400,000 Iraqis who worked in the dismembered Iraqi armed forces and in the departments of the security forces and the information and defense ministries.
