Syrian communist parliamentarian calls for political parties law
Syria, Politics, 6/19/2003
Communist member of the Syrian parliament Hnein Nimer ( of Youssef al-Faisal wing) has called on the Syrian government to work for separating authorities and for issuing a law for parties after the "internal condition has become mature enough."
This was expressed in an intervention he made at the Syrian parliament in the course of discussing the government's statement which was circulated by the prime minister Muhammad Mustafa Miro to the parliament where discussions on it started this week.
Nimer said "The internal situation has become mature quite enough, so as to issue a law for parties by which political, people and party life can flourish." He indicated the need of "amending certain laws which restrict public freedom."
Nimer also criticized the Syrian media and called for having the media be attractive and more appealing by addressing citizen's concerns.
