American forces captures Saddam Hussein 's secretary
Iraq-USA, Military, 6/19/2003

American military sources said that the US forces have arrested one of the main aides of the toppled Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, his Secretary, Hameed hammoud al-Takreiti, ranked fourth on the list of 55 most wanted persons of former Iraqi officials, following Saddam Hussein and his two sons Ode and Qusai.

A spokesman for the US army in Baghdad said that Hammoud was arrested in Iraq, but refused to give additional information. Hammoud is considered among the main Iraqi figures chased by the US.

Lt. Gen. Hammoud appeared for the last time, accompanying Saddam Hussein in a tour of Baghdad's streets just one day before the collapse of the city in the hands of the American forces.

Former chairman of the Iraqi intelligence Lt. Gen. Wafiq al- Samarai described Lt. Gen. Hammoud as a very important person. He explained in a statement to al-Jazira TV yesterday that Hammoud is considered the holder of secrets of the toppled Iraqi President and accompanied him in all phases of his rule since he was a Maj. in the army until he became a Lt. Gen., adding that during all this long period, Hammoud was Saddam's escort and personal guard.

Al-Samarai indicated that Hammoud, because of his post, was familiar with all military, political and intelligence activities and all matters relate to mass destruction weapons.

In the same context, an American military spokesman said that the American forces raided two countryside houses near Takrit city, northern Iraq yesterday and seized millions of US dollars, EURO, Sterling Pound and Iraqi dinars, all seemed to be allotted as awards to kill American soldiers.

The American forces seized USD 8.5 million and between 300- 400 million Iraqi dinars and Jewelry estimated at USD one million.

The campaign also resulted in arresting 50 members of the special Republican Guards of the toppled Saddam Hussein and the security forces.
