Syria: Human rights society criticizes pace of continued recession

The Human Rights Society in Syria yesterday criticized continued "oppressive detention" in the country at a time when Syrian officials statements have been increasing on the "development" of human rights conditions.

In a statement, the society said that "no meeting between Syrian officials and foreign delegations, especially Europeans, which visit Syria, is free from talking about human rights as statements of these officials are increasing on the improvement of these conditions and more promises are taken for greater honoring of these rights, like what had happened in the meeting with the European Parliamentary delegation ( headed by Sami Nair) with the Syrian authorities, however, the pace of continued recession of human rights in Syria and freedom is increasing."

The statement indicated "individual oppressive detention" targeted three persons from various cities and the "collective oppressive detention" targeted groups of youngesters in Daraya and al-Zabadani ( two areas in the outskirts of Damascus), separately and at Islamic bakgrounds.

The statement spoke about the situations of "the nine detainees in Damascus " and the bad health conditions of the two members of the Arab communist organization Fares Murad and Imad Sheiha who have been jailed since 28 years.
