Algeria: No insurmountable problem in Morocco-Algeria relations
Morocco-Algeria, Politics, 6/17/2003

"There is no insurmountable problem in the development of Morocco-Algeria relations and we are completely ready to establish a model cooperation with Morocco," Algerian foreign affairs minister, Abdul Aziz Balkhadem, said here on Sunday.

Belkhadem told MAP at the end of a two-day official visit by Moroccan foreign affairs and cooperation minister, Mohammed Benaissa, "we have expressed resolve to our brother (Benaissa) to broaden cooperation with Morocco."

Balkhadem added that he shares Benaissa's opinion that it is crucial to start a new page in relations between the two neighbor countries. "Now, he added, with the determination of the two countries and their heads of state, we have to materialize this readiness by undertaking further steps."

In the same vein, Benaissa said he sensed a strong political resolve in Algeria for the settlement of pending issues.

He added that his visit and that of his Algerian peer to Morocco, last April, contributed to deepening confidence between the two countries and opened new cooperation prospects.

On his part, head of the Algerian government, Ahmed Ouyahya, reiterated at the end of talks with Benaissa the Algerian government's intent and readiness to reinforce multiform links with Morocco.

The two countries agreed to carry on consultation at the level of three committees dealing with political, consular and economic issues.
