Morocco, Algeria agree to create three committees to reinforce cooperation
Morocco-Algeria, Politics, 6/17/2003
Morocco and Algeria agreed to set up three committees to maintain contacts between the two Maghreban states and enhance joint action, says a joint statement released at the end of a visit to Algiers over the week end by Moroccan minister of foreign affairs and cooperation, Mohamed Benaissa.
The first committee in charge of political consultation, will be chaired by the heads of diplomacies of the two north African states.
The two other committees will look into economic questions and consular and social affairs and will meet respectively in Algiers later this June and in Rabat early July.
The two foreign ministers have held "deep political consultation" on a number of issues of common interest at the Maghreban, Arab, African, Mediterranean and international levels, says the statement.
During his visit to Algiers, Benaissa also held talks with the Algerian president and prime minister.
