Two Iraqi killed, nine arrested in al-Ramadi, explosions against US forces in Falouja
Iraq-USA, Military, 6/17/2003
News reports in Baghdad said that three large explosions shook the American forces leadership position in Falouja to the west of Baghdad. This came at a time when the American forces are carrying a campaign in the area aiming at eliminating pockets of Iraqi resistance there.
Winesses said that the explosions took place at the permanent headquarters of the American forces near the downtown of the city. An eye witness from Falouja said he had heard three large explosions that resulted in fires at the headquarters of the American forces in the city and that the American forces retaliated the fire.
On the other hand, four Iraqis were injured when a car was blown up in a tunnel situated in the "Aviation square" under vague conditions.
One survivor -- one of five persons who were in the car -- said that the explosion took place under them. A matter which indicates that the explosion might be a result of a land mine. The American forces hurried to the place and cordoned it. One American soldier said that American military vehicles often pas inside this tunnel several times a day.
News reports also said that two Iraqi citizens were killed and a third was wounded in al-Ramadi city to the west of Baghdad at monitoring barriers installed by the American forces inside and outside the city.
Two Iraqi citizens coming from Rawa city passed in their car an American check point at the western entrance of the city and knew nothing of it. Fire was opened against them. One was killed and the second was wounded.
Another incident took place in al-Ramadi city. It was a row between an on-foot American patrol and one citizen from Rawa. Members of the patrol opened fire on the Iraqi and he was killed as a result.
In al-Ghazaleyah area, the western district of Baghdad, two persons were killed at least and a third was strongly injured when a mine exploded in two sedan cars.
Citizens of the area accused the American forces of placing the mine before withdrawal from the road where the incident took place.
In another development the American forces detained nine persons and confiscated weapons during large scale mopping up operations in al-Khaladeyah city ( 100 Km to the west of Baghdad ), according to families of the detainees.
