Egyptian delegation arrives in Gaza soon
Palestine-Egypt, Politics, 6/16/2003

An Egyptian delegation was due in Gaza today to help launch a dialogue between the Palestinian Authority and all the national and Islamic opposition factions in order to reach a common ground in the face of challenges.

Informed Palestinian sources said the delegation is due in Gaza in the context of the Egyptian efforts to prevent further security deterioration in the region after the Israeli escalation and the war declared on the Palestinian people.

Cairo is making contacts with the US to hold Israel Palestinian meetings to follow up cessation of military operations between the two sides.

Palestinian Minister of Information Nabil Amr said intensive contacts took place in the past 24 hours between the United States, Egypt, the Palestinians and Israelis to fend off further aggravations.

In statements to MENA, Amr hailed the Egyptian efforts in support of the Palestinian people's strife and right to establish their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.

The Egyptian activities come to immediately embark on the implementation of the roadmap plan and stopping the Israeli aggression, Minister of Information Nabil Amr said.

On Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's proposal to start a ceasefire for three days, Amr said we are now talking on a wider formula, which is propagated by Egypt and the United States, that is to start materializing the roadmap plan. He said the Palestinian side would not agree to the selective approach.

Israeli sources had Friday said Israel would be ready to withdraw its troops immediately from Gaza Strip without Preconditions provided that the Security Affairs Minister in the Palestinian Authority Mohamed Dahlan would show readiness to undertake responsibility of security in the Strip.

In New York, the Security Council called on Israelis and Palestinians to reach an immediate ceasefire denouncing excessive use of force against Palestinians.
