The Sunday Times: Raghad Saddam Hussein: My father and brothers are alive
Iraq, Politics, 6/16/2003
One of the daughters of the toppled Iraqi President Saddam Hussein said that her father and two brothers Ode and Qusai are still alive, denying, simultaneously to have any contacts with them at the meantime.
Raghad Saddam Hussein, the elder daughter of the former Iraqi president said in an interview with the British daily The Sunday Times yesterday "I know he had survived death," noting that "the last time I have talked to my father was five days before the eruption of the war on ( March 20). His morale was high. I know he survived the war."
She stressed that her father did not leave Iraq before April 9th, when Baghdad fell. Raghad said "when Baghdad fell I had no contacts with any member of my family. But I think that they are all alive." Raghad denied what was published by certain British media on her intention to ask for asylum in London. She said she likes Britain, adding that it is "impossible politically" to live in Britain. On the other hand, Raghad said "I can no more stay in my country." The paper said that Raghad is negotiating with her sister Rana to leave for the UAE with their children.
Replying to a question on whether she had cut relations with her father after he had assassinated her husband and her sister's husband by the beginning of 1996, several months after they had escaped to Jordan, Raghad refused to comment, saying "he is my father and I am his daughter. He was a very good father." Saddam's two sons in law Hussein Kamel al-Majid and Saddam Kamel split from the regime in August 1995 and were assassinated in their houses when they returned back to Iraq after 6 months by being promised they would not be harmed. This happened when Raghad and Rana were on a visit to their father.
