Arab states move towards smoother visa procedures
Regional, Politics, 6/14/2003

The Arab states will speed up and facilitate visa procedures, notably through the use of the fax and the internet to deal with visa applications.

The general secretariat of Arab interior ministers' council said in a release, the commission in charge of proposing means to facilitate visa procedures between Arab countries is in favor of an "automatic visa" extending on one month for tourists and three months for businessmen and students.

The release further underlined the need to take into account security measures in each Arab country and accompany them with an improvement of services in borders checkpoints.

The proposals, aiming to facilitate the movement of Arab citizens among Arab countries, were submitted to the general secretariat that will hand them to ministers' council in the upcoming session scheduled in 2004.
