Palestine-Israel, Military, 6/14/2003
One Palestinian citizen was killed and other 26 wounded including children and women in a new raid launched by Israeli military helicopters on Friday evening against Gaza.
News reports said the Israeli helicopters fired missiles at a sedan car in al-Sabra quarters in the heart of the sector which was carrying, according to the Israeli side, activists who fired missiles at Seidrout settlement to the south of Israel.
Palestinian medical sources said that the murdered Palestinian is called Fouad al-Leddawi ( 26 year old) and is one of the Hamas Islamic resistance movement.
This Israeli raid came within a series of raids by the Israeli occupation forces against the sector following the resistance operation which targeted an Israeli bus in Jerusalem on Tuesday and resulted in killing 16 Israelis. The operation came after an attempt made by Israel to assassinate the leading figure in Hamas Abdul Aziz al-Ranteisi. The recent Israeli escalation against the West Bank and Gaza resulted in killing 10 persons and wounding many others.
On the other hand, an Israeli military sources said that one Israeli was killed by bullets on Friday evening in Jenin to the north of the West Bank. Eye witnesses said they saw a man hit in the head before an Israeli ambulance had taken him. He is, however, the second Israeli killed in Jenin during two days. The occupation forces on Thursday found a body of an iIraeli near Ya'bad village to the south of Jenin.
Meantime, the Palestinian President Yasser Arafat presided over an emergency meeting for the leaders of the Palestinian security department who were able to make their way into Ramullah coming from Gaza.
Meantime, news reports in Cairo said that Egypt received promises that the leaderships of the Hamas movement expressed readiness to halt its operations against the Israelis temporarily, under the condition that Israel will halt its aggressions against the Palestinians.
The reports said that Egypt will dispatch a delegation comprising 10 security and political figures to the occupied Palestinian territories within the two coming days to help in convening direct meetings between the Palestinian prime minister Mahmoud Abbas and Palestinian resistance groups, in addition to arrangements by the American side to convene Israeli- Palestinian meetings in search for a truce.
