Releasing Madani, Balhah in July
Algeria, Politics, 6/13/2003
The chairman of the Algerian league in defense of human rights, lawyer Abdul Nour Aki Yahya, said yesterday that his two clients, the leading figures of the banned Islamic Front For Salvation, Abbasi Madani and Ali Balhah, will be released on July 2nd.
The lawyer told L' expression that the two detainees will be released on July 2nd, stressing that this statement is "official and confirmed." Ali Yahya added quoting sources at the military court in al-Bleida, 50 Km to the south of the capital, which sentenced the two leading figures that "there are no further pending issue concerning the detainees."
Thereby, the lawyer denied press information talking about keeping Ali Balhah in jail because of a message carrying his signature found on the body of an Islamist leader in which he called for supporting armed action.
But the L ' expression considered, according to sources asked to be anonymous, that nothing prevents the return back of the two leaders, especially Ali Balhah, who is known for his extremist statements, to prison several days or one week after releasing them."
