French mayor in Fez to activate spa cities twinning act

Mayor of the French spa city of Aix-Les-Bains and advisor of French prime minister, Dominique Dord, visited Fez this June 9-11 to reactivate a 1994 twinning agreement between his city and the Moroccan spa town of Moulay Yacoub (near Fez).

The mayor says he ambitions to go beyond the conventional actions of twinning acts to diversify cooperation and expand to the whole region of Fez-Boulemane, in order to develop a genuine economic and cultural partnership based mainly on spa activities and cultural tourism.

He says he plans to build a Moroccan cultural center in the Bourget lake and erect a fountain in the city's park.

Relations between Morocco and Aix-Les-Bains are historic, said the mayor referring to the negotiations for Morocco's independence held in the city.
