Occupation forces detain Sadoun Hammadi; Rumsfeld: overcoming resistance takes months
Iraq-USA, Politics, 6/11/2003

The US defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld has admitted that overcoming the pockets of the Iraqi resistance which belongs to Saddam Hussein's regime in Iraq will take months. His statement coincided with a series of raids carried out by the occupation forces at sites for Iraqi resistance to the west of Baghdad that resulted in detaining 384 resistance fighters and wounding 4 Americans.

Meantime, a close associate to the chairman of the former Iraqi National Council ( the parliament) Sadoun Hammadi said that the Americans arrested Hammadi and he has been held since May 29 at Baghdad's International Airport, whereas officials at the US defense department said that the occupation forces arrested two more officials whose names are on the 55 most wanted Iraqis list. They are Latif Nasif al-Jasem al- Duleimi, one member of the revolution's leadership council and the former deputy chairman of the military office in the Baath Party and Gen. Hussein al-Awadi who has a senior post in the chemical weapons contingent in the former Iraqi army.

The US central leadership, on the other hand announced that one American soldier was killed and another one was gravely wounded to the southern west of Baghdad yesterday. The leadership explained that the "two soldiers were in a center for collecting weapons when a small truck stopped, having four persons on it, 250 meters from the place where the two soldiers existed." The leadership indicated that two of the four men got out of the truck and fired RPJ shells at the soldiers and fled away.
