Berlusconi in Cairo

Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi is due in Egypt Tuesday on a two-day visit, during which he will meet President Hosni Mubarak, a senior Italian embassy official said in Cairo Sunday.
Berlusconi's visit is part of a Mideast tour, which will take him to Jordan and Israel to discuss the peace process in view of the US-backed roadmap peace plan.
Mubarak-Berlusconi talks will dwell on developments of the Middle East peace process and means to materialize the roadmap plan in light of the US - Arab Summit held last week in the Egyptian Red Sea retreat of Sharm el-Sheikh as well as the European role that can be played by Italy, which will undertake the European Union (EU) presidency on July 1, to push forward the peace process.
The talks will also touch on Iraq and a host of international issues of mutual concern and means to give a shot in the arm on bilateral relations. Italy is Egypt's first European trade partner and the second at world level after the United States.
ÊÊÊEgypt-Italy trade volume exchange hit dlrs 710 million. The two sides are working on upping the Egyptian exports to Italy, which hit 56% and increasing the volume of Italian investments to Egypt.
ÊÊÊItaly is also Egypt's no.1 partner in the field of tourism as the number of Italian tourists to Egypt reached 760,000.
