Spanish politicians satisfied with normalization of Moroccan-Spanish relations
Morocco-Spain, Politics, 6/10/2003
The Spanish two major political parties were satisfied with the normalization of Morocco-Spain relations, and voiced hope to see the two countries conducting an open and frank dialogue on pending issues.
Manuel Marin, Spanish labour socialist party MP and in charge of the party's foreign policy told Moroccan TV channel 2M last Friday's visit of Moroccan premier, Driss Jettou, brought about a "great satisfaction to our party, to Spanish democrats, to the Spanish government and, foremost, to the Spanish people."
Marin also spoke about illegal immigration underscoring that Spain and Morocco should first reach an agreement on this issue conceding, however, that "Morocco's arguments to conclude a general accord with the European Union (EU) are correct."
"We are working within the EU to find a comprehensive and general solution," he went on.
On his part, spokesman of the Popular Party (PP) Gustava de Aristegui, evoked the Sahara question underlining that Spain's stance in this issue is in line with the UN position.
"We have always said that there should be a solution that is acceptable to both sides and that would not jeopardise stability in the region," He went on.
For Spain, the well-being, progress, democracy, liberty, stability of Morocco is an absolute priority, he added.
