Khartoum calls for referendum on peace agreement with rebels
Sudan, Politics, 6/10/2003
The advisor for the Sudanese President Ghazi Salah Eddine said that Khartoum calls for conducting a citizen referendum on the peace agreement due to be signed with the rebels so as to guarantee abiding by it and to have a citizen base of support that is obligatory on all sides.
Salah Eddine demanded after his meeting in Khartoum on Sunday with Gen. Lazarass, the Kenyan mediator for peace in Sudan to accelerate the general elections for the presidency and the parliament in a period not to exceed one year after the signing of the final peace agreement. He promised that the government will accept the result even it states to alienate it from the authority.
