Palestine-Israel, Military, 6/9/2003
The Palestinian Intifada witnessed yesterday an advanced step in its military struggle, as three resistance organizations, the Islamic Jihad movement, al-Aqsa martyrs groups of the Fatah movement and the Islamic resistance movement of Hamas took part together in an attack against an Israeli military position near Eres crossing, where four Israeli soldiers were killed and four wounded, while the three Palestinians, executors of the operation were killed.
Meantime, another Israeli soldier was killed and two other Palestinians in the city of Hebron, while one Palestinian was killed in another attack near Ghoushe Katif settlements in Gaza.
Israel hurried to provoke against what it called "Satanic alliance" between the three movements which rejected dialogue with the Palestinian government of Mahmoud Abbas.
Israel, however, had announce tightened measures against the West Bank and Gaza, days after Abbas had vowed to "end the armed Intifada" and his rejection to "terrorism against the Israelis wherever they are," and a Palestinian attack took place against an Israeli military position near a crossing point in Gaza, separating between the occupied lands since 1948 and 1967. In the first step of its kind since the beginning of the Intifada, three groups claimed responsibility for the attack in a joint statement.
The Israeli radio said that four Israelis were killed and other four wounded in an attack by machine guns not far from the industrial Eres zone at the northern entrance of Gaza. The radio added that the three Palestinians who were wearing the Israeli uniforms were able, to sneak into the area.
Groups of al-Aqsa martyrs of the Fatah movement, al-Quds groups of the Islamic Jihad movement and Ezz Eddine al-Qassam groups, the armed wing of the Hamas movement claimed in a joint statement responsibility for the attack. The three groups said the three resistance men broke into "the leadership position of the Israeli army in Eres and led an armed clash that lasted for one and half hours and emptied their bombs and bullets in the heads of the Zionist soldiers and army officers."
The joint statement added "the three martyrs are Muhammad Youssef Abu Beid ( 21 year old from Jabalia and al-Qassam group). Muhammad al-Beck ( 22 year old from al- Zaitoun quarters in Gaza, al-Quds group) and Mousa Ibrahim ( 22 year old, from Beit Hanoun and al-Aqsa groups ) launched this joint heroic operation which started from the heart of Beit Hanoun."
The statement continued that the operation "came to assure the unity of our people to the option of Jihad and resistance until occupation is defeated." Meantime, the Israeli radio announced the killing of one Israeli and two armed Palestinians yesterday in Hebron in an attack whose details were not disclosed.
The Israeli army imposed curfew against the city after one of the Israeli boarder guards was gravely wounded in an armed Palestinian attack near al-Ibraheimi mosque in Hebron.
Since Saturday evening, Israel re-imposed total closure on the West Bank under the claims of attacks by Palestinians, at the orders of the Israeli defense minister. Following the Erez attack, Israel reinforced its closure of all crossings of Gaza and expelled the Palestinian workers at the crossing.
