The people's committee for al- Jakheis suburb in Sudan said that 8 persons were killed and other 17 wounded in confrontations with the governmental authorities which are removing unlicensed houses for 30,000 citizens in the area.
Citizens of the area accused the government of not taking into account their humanitarian conditions or giving any alternative in humanitarian aid to them. Meantime, the governor of Karkari in Um Draman defended the decision taken to remove the unlicensed houses, noting that the damage inflected on citizens is natural as a result of the reform plans and replanning.
On the other hand, the Arab states announced financial contributions to the special Fund to rebuild southern Sudan which was destroyed by the civil war.
Qatar vowed to pay 703,000 dollars, Libya one million dollars, Syria 527, 000 dollars in order to finance developmental projects in southern Sudan before organizing an expected referendum on self determination in the framework of Mashakos agreement at the conclusion of a six- year interim rule.
The announcement of these contributions came during a meeting organized by the Arab League for Arab and Islamic commissions to help development in order to discuss rebuilding southern Sudan, in preparation for ending the civil war. The meeting was attended by the Sudanese foreign minister Mustafa Othman Ismael. It is the third meeting of its kind organized by the Arab League since December 2002.
The Arab summit which was held in Beirut in March 2002 decided to found this special fund at a capital of 450 million dollars. However, the AL has so far has not received any contribution from its member states.
