Hamas, al-Jihad, al-Shabeya will not drop their guns, will avoid inter- fighting
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 6/5/2003

The Hamas, Islamic Jihad movements, and the People's Front For the Liberation of Palestine have strongly criticized the speech delivered by the Palestinian prime minister Mahmoud Abbas ( Abu Mazin) at al-Aqaba summit, and they vowed not to drop their weapons -- as called for by Abbas -- as long as occupation continues, but on the other hand stressed they will avoid any attempt that will lead to inter- Palestinian fighting.

The leading figure in the Hamas movement Abdul Aziz al-Ranteisi said that the movement "will stand by the side of the Palestinian people and with the gun and will not permit anyone to give up one inch of the land of Palestine."

Al-Ranteisi considered that Abbas "has denied the sufferings of the Palestinian people and just remembered that the Palestinian people are terrorists, killing the Jews," adding "the sufferings before the world has become that of the Jews, and we do not have sufferings, and that the problem is about the Jews and Abu Mazin came to solve it for them." In remarks to the Israelis, al-Ranteisi said "we should cling to the 'right of return' of which Abu Mazin gave no mention."

For his part, one of the Islamic Jihad movement leaders Muhammad al-Hindi said that Abbas "gave free concessions and vowed to end armed conflict in the Intifada. and resistance -- the only paper in the hand of the Palestinian negotiator." He said that Abbas "condemned terrorism against the Israelis and it was presumed (he would) condemn the Zionist occupation and terrorism." He stressed that the "Palestinian resistance will preserve the equilibrium in that it will continue as far as occupation is there."

For its part, the People's Front said in a statement that al-Aqaba summit "reveals the extent of the American- Zionist monopoly of what is called the peace process." The statement said that "this summit which is held in al-Aqaba city at the American request with a Palestinian representation decided beforehand and complete absence of the representatives for the UN and the European Union, with total ignorance for an international monitoring, reveals the extent of the American- Zionist monopoly of what is called the peace process." The statement stressed that the Front "while rejecting the ignorance of regional and international changes which require foiling the Israeli maneuvers, sees that the calls to recognize Israel as a democratic 'Jewish state,' aims in one strike not only to chop the right of the Palestinian refugees to return back, rather (he) denounced the history of a militant struggle mounted by the Palestinians for vague promises of a Palestinian state pending in the air." For his part, the Front's official in Gaza, Jamil Majdalawi, said "we will do our best to reconcile between continued Intifada and resistance and to avoid any internal Palestinian fighting."
