Explosive went off in a Hizbullah ambulance
Lebanon, Local, 6/4/2003
Eye-witnesses and security sources said that an explosive went off in an ambulance for the Hizbullah party in the border Lebanese village of Kafer Kalla and resulted in wounding its driver in the first incident of its kind targeting members of the Hizbullah party since the Israeli withdrawal from south Lebanon in 2000.
Witnesses described the wounds of the driver, Jihad Halaweh, as very grave while the car was greatly damaged.
A security source said that it seemed that explosives seemed to be placed in an ambulance for the Hizbullah party detonated in the main square of the village while the driver was inspecting the car.
The witnesses said the area of the explosion was blocked and citizens and journalists were banned from approaching the area. So far no comments were issued by the Hizbullah party.
Worthy mentioning that South Lebanon is still under the control of Hizbullah which runs a hospital and several health centers in the area. The armed resistance of the Hizbullah party forced Israel to withdraw from South Lebanon following 22 years of occupation.
