Antiquities summer school opens next week
Egypt, Local, 5/31/2003
Building on the success of the experiment last year, the summer course at the Antiquities School affiliated to the Egyptian Museum begins next week when the regular school year finishes.
Minister of Culture Farouk Hosni has approved plans to extend the summer course for a few months and set up similar schools in the Luxor and Aswan museums.
Secretary - General of the Supreme Council for Antiquities (SCA) Dr Zahi Hawas said that class sizes would be lower for the two 6-week courses, which are intended to make young people aware of their cultural heritage, to ensure better teaching.
Along with visits to other museums and field trips, students will be given on-the-job training on archaeological sites.
Phase two of this experiment will involve the Islamic, Coptic and Graeco-Roman Museums.
