Message from al-Assad to Khatami conveyed by al-Shara

Iranian President, Muhammad Khatami received in Tehran on Thursday Syria's Foreign Minister, Farouk Al-Shara. Al-Shara handed Khatami a letter from President Bashar Al-Assad pertaining to the latest developments in the region and the bilateral relations.

Shara expressed Syria's stand by Iran regarding threats directed against it. For his part, Khatami expressed highly appreciation over Syria's support to Iran.

During his meeting with representatives of media in Tehran, al-Shara described threats and allegations directed against Syria and Iran as baseless and have no credibility.

He stressed the necessity of disarmament the Middle East region from weapons of mass destruction and indicated that Syria and Iran were on the top of the states who agreed to that.
