Annan calls polisario to lift limitations to MINURSO freedom of movement
Morocco-Algeria, Politics, 5/29/2003
UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan, called the Polisario front to lift limitations hampering freedom of movement of the MINURSO (French acronym for the UN mission in the Sahara).
In a report to the Security Council, Annan says "The Frente POLISARIO continues to impose some limitations on the Mission's freedom of movement," urging that "their removal would increase the efficiency of the Mission's ground and air patrolling activities."
He urged the Polisario to release Moroccan prisoners of war it is detaining in Tindouf, southwestern Algeria.
In his latest report to the security council, Annan writes that his special representative has continued to try to convince the Polisario front that it should free all prisoners of war it is holding in Tindouf.
