Syria - Britain round table discussions

A round table meeting was held on Sunday by a delegation representing the Syrian-British Association headed by Fawaz Al-Akhras and the member of the British House of Commons, Richard Spring.
Talks dealt with the situation in the region, the peace process, the Syrian-British relations and the role of the Association in boosting these relations.
The British delegation expressed appreciation over the developments in Syria in all domains in a frame work of security, stability and national unity.
The members of the delegation stressed Syria's important role in preserving security and stability in the region and realizing peace that the Arab nation aspires to.
Concerning Syria's role in combating terrorism, al-Akhras stressed that Syria has suffered and combated terrorism pointing out that many American officials expressed gratitude to Syria's role in fighting terrorism asserting that Syria's cooperation in fighting terrorism helped in saving many Americans.
For their part, professors of Damascus University asserted that Syria has been supporting just and comprehensive peace based on the international legitimacy resolutions and the principle of "land for peace," stressing that Israel is hindering peace process through rejecting the commitment to implement the international legitimacy resolutions.
They also called for the implementation of the international law in the international relations stressing that the Syria's law is the only one in the world that includes a clear definition of terrorism.
Participants underlined the importance of the continued dialogue and exchanging the view points in order to reach joint concepts concerning all issues and in order to acquaint the British people with the Syrian stances regarding various debated issues.
