Morocco, Portugal agree to consolidate ties
Morocco-Portugal, Politics, 5/24/2003
Morocco and Portugal wound up in Rabat Thursday the 7th session of their high joint commission with the adoption of a package of agreements meant to upgrade bilateral cooperation.
The accords deal with the extension by two years of a 10-million Euro credit line to Morocco, the creation of a legal instrument to govern civil commercial affairs, mutual recognition of driving licences issued in either country and the creation of a committee to follow up agricultural and rural development cooperation.
The two Mediterranean countries also agreed to speed up negotiations for a financial accord worth 100 million Euros to fund Portuguese projects in Morocco.
The commission's works were co-chaired by Moroccan Premier Driss Jettou and Portuguese peer, Durao Barroso.
Jettou voiced hope that bilateral cooperation will be consolidated to match the excellent political ties binding the two countries.
The Portuguese Premier stressed the need to translate the accords signed into tangible reality.
Barroso left Morocco Thursday evening.
