Israel converts an Egyptian fishing boat to a new case of smuggling weapons
Lebanon-Israel, Politics, 5/23/2003
The Israeli authorities announced that its Naval Commando unit seized an Egyptian boat for smuggling weapons to the Palestinian areas and explained that the seizing operation took place off the coast of Haifa and seven members were arrested.
They are the crew of the ship and the "8th passenger" which they said was "an explosives expert" from the Hizbullah party, which ( the Hizbullah party) announced in a statement it has no information and no links with the Israeli story and that none of its members were not arrested in recent days.
The control of the "weapons's ship" which turned to be a fishing boat took place on Tuesday evening. According to latest information, talks are now not of "smuggling weapons," but rather of "smuggling of technology," as the boat was not carrying weapons, rather samples of weapons.
According to the Israeli TV, the boat was carrying "an explosives expert from Hizbullah carrying with him detailed information from the military industry for Hizbullah and Iran."
The Egyptian fishing boat which carries the name of "Abu Hassan" had one week earlier left Rasheed port near Alexandria and headed for Marsa Matrouh port. According to the Israeli information, the boat from there went to the Lebanese coasts and off Beirut a rapid boat carrying three Hizbullah men transported the 8th passenger from the rapid boat to the Egyptian fishing boat and that 8th boat was only the explosives expert who persisted during the investigation that he is an Egyptian living in Lebanon and his name is Hamid Muslim Abu Amra.
