British forces to help in Baghdad the US establish security
Iraq-USA, Politics, 5/23/2003
History repeats itself back when the British forces with the support of the newly founded Jordanian army in 1941 toppled the Iraqi prime minister, then, Rasheed Aali al-Keilani who stood against the crown prince of the Iraqi throne, prince Abdul Illah Bin Ali.
British forces said yesterday that the British forces are preparing to go to Baghdad in a short time to maintain peace keeping and security missions there.
The sources said, according to the Daily Mirror, that 5500 UK troops of the special forces who are currently around al-Basra will replace the American forces in the Iraqi capital which failed until now to ensure the least extent of security and stability for this very large capital.
Well-informed sources indicate that the American forces lack experience in carrying out the missions of the local police and therefore the collapsing security conditions in Baghdad do not encourage implementing measures under plan to form a provisional government formed by the Iraqis themselves in order to lay the bases for establishing a new Iraq after the collapse of the rule of President Saddam Hussein.
Worthy mentioning that the British forces carried out similar missions in Iraq, especially in Baghdad when it returned back after Iraq won independence in a mission during which it toppled the government of Rasheed Aali al-Keilani who held a coupe in 1941 with militant officers against the crown prince of the Iraqi throne prince Abdul Illah Bin Ali.
The British forces expelled al-Keilani, arrested the four main officers who led the coupe attempt and executed them. The crown prince was brought back to the throne. The small King Faisal II who was then 6 years old was brought back to the throne. He was smuggled in secret to al- Musil to preserve his life.
After that, the Hashemite rule continued in Iraq safely until 1958 when army officers led by Lt. Gen. Abdul Karim Qasem carried out a bloody coupe in which they killed all members of the royal family and installed the Republican regime since then.
Political source consider that the British forces assignment to shoulder security and stability missions in Baghdad, in particular after achieving that in Basra and southern areas will be conducive, to historical experiences to start measures to found the interim authority.
