100 million to build three power transformer stations

Egypt's Minister of Electricity and Energy, Hassan Younis said that the electricity sector has prepared an urgent programme to reinforce electricity networks nationwide to face the increasing demand in power.
Hence, the Ministry has allocated an amount of L.E. 100 million to build three power transformer stations in Kafr E1 zayat, Damanhour and Kom Hamada for development projects.
Meanwhile, it was decided to establish two new transformer stations at Sheikh Zowayed and North Sinai, with a capacity of 300,000 kilovolt, complete "Nabq" transformer station with a capacity of 50,000 kilovolt, South Sinai and establish three different aerial lines with different potentials from Sheikh Zowayed to Rafah and from Masaeed to El-Arish as well as Ras Sedr - Al-Tor line to confront the incessant increase in power demand.
Mohammed Awad, Chairman of the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company, clarified that this year will witness the operation of "Nabk" transformer station at a cost of L.E. 22 million to serve the touristic projects south of Sinai, expansion of "Sharm El-Sheikh" transformer station by a third transformer with a capacity of 125,000 kilo volt and replacement of two transformers in the same station to double its capacity from 150,000 to 250,000 kilovolt at a cost of L.E. 60 million.
This in addition to assembling a moving transformer station in Al-Tor to confront ths increasing load with a capacity of 10,000 kilovolt.
Ismail Helal, Chairman of the Suez Company for Distributing Electricity said that the company has allocated L.E. 111 million as new investments for its projects during the new fiscal year to complete its electricity projects which aim at serving the plans of development, investment and housing.
He pointed to the fact that 98 percent of Sinai's inhabitants enjoy electricity either in villages or cities and even in the arid mountainous area, artesian wells were also electrified.
On another plane, three Egyptian companies will begin execution of an electricity linkage project in Libya of 400 kilovolt at $ 95 million contract The project continues for 30 months to extend over an area of 750 kilometers.
The Minister said that the project aims at linking the Libyan grid with the Arab grid, in a bid to provide power for development projects.
