Moroccan community in Canary Islands strive to give echo to their hushed voice

The 15,000-strong Moroccan community living in the Canary Islands among 1.9 million inhabitants is for the first time taking an interest in politics as the archipelago is readying to hold this May 25 polls to elect the parliament and local representatives
Until the latest elections of 1999, Moroccan expatriates, the largest foreign community in the Canary archipelago, has kept away from politics, says one of these Moroccans who has been living there for almost half a century. Hammadi Masaoud Farkhani, says "it is crucial for all Moroccan-born Spaniards to participate in these polls if they are to make their voice heard."
