Occupation abrogates Iraqi intelligence: the media, interior and defense employees sacked
Iraq-USA, Politics, 5/21/2003

The chairman of the committee which runs the affairs of the Iraqi foreign ministry, Muhammad Amin Ahmad, said that his ministry received American instructions state to sack the employees of the ministries of information, defense and the interior and to abrogate the general intelligence department, while the occupation administration continued to rule out former officials from the Iraqi administrations.

The biweekly political al-Sheraa paper quoted Muhammad as saying that the "foreign ministry received American instructions to fire all personnel of the ministries of the information, defense and the interior as well as the general intelligence directorate." He added " that the foreign ministry had actually ended the service of intelligence employees working in the diplomatic crop outside and inside Iraq."

On the call addressed by the foreign ministry several days ago to Iraqi ambassadors and heads of missions working abroad to attend to Baghdad before June 6th, Muhammad said that "everyone will respond to this call." He explained that the aim of summoning them is to make consultation with them." He added "we do not rule out that missions will be assigned to them and others will be fired from the diplomatic field."

On the other hand, scores of electricity workers in Iraq demonstrated yesterday in front of Palestine Hotel at al-Fadrous square in Baghdad calling for firing Karim Wahid who was appointed by the coalition forces as an executive director for the electricity sector, over his being a member in the former Iraqi regime and a looter of large sums during Saddam Hussein's rule.

The demonstrators chanted slogan calling for firing Wahid from his post because he was a senior "member at the Baath Party and he was sentenced between 1998- 1999 over stealing large sums and signing false contracts with foreign companies in the course of the 'oil for food' program."
