Morocco, Local, 5/20/2003
Moroccan Interior Minister, El Mustapha Sahel, on Monday said all terrorists involved in the Friday attacks in Casablanca, were identified.
"The network that perpetrated the terrorist attacks in Casablanca, was identified," Sahel told the Moroccan 2M TV channel.
Twelve terrorists were killed in the attacks that claimed 41 lives and 100 injured, the minister said, adding a terrorist was arrested in the night of the attacks, while the second was arrested on Sunday evening.
The arrest of the two individuals helped score progress in investigation and confirmed connection with international terrorism, he said.
The minister denied the involvement of any officer from the United Arab Emirates nor of any engineer from the Moroccan power company (ONE) in the attacks.
Rumors of this kind are sheer invention of journalists and of a certain foreign press, he said, voicing thanks to security services of friendly countries for their technical assistance in identifying the authors of the attacks.
Meantime, Eight of the 14 authors of the terrorist attacks that hit Casablanca on Friday used to live in the same neighbourhood of the same city, Moroccan Justice Minister, Mohamed Bouzoubaa, said Monday.
The assailants come from "modest areas" and "some of them were pupils or students," the Minister told the press.
The surviving attacker was a car caretaker, the Minister said, adding the public opinion will be kept informed on the developments of the issue in accordance with the instructions of King Mohammed VI, who called for observing transparency in this regard.
Security services are controlling the situation and the investigations are going on, Bouzoubaa said, adding the police are investigating every people suspected of connection to the terrorist attacks.
