A mediation between Syria and the Lebanese opposition

Former Lebanese foreign minister Fouad Butrous has stated he is playing a mediating role between Syria and the Lebanese Christian opposition represented in "Qurnet Shahwan" in order to bring view points together away from limelight.
In an exclusive statement to the United Arab Emirates UAE al-Bayan daily issued yesterday, Butrous explained that his efforts are built on al-Taif Accord for initiating "a brotherly civilizational dialogue." But he indicated that internal Lebanese difficulties and regional conditions prevent that.
He considers that the problem between Syria and Lebanon is the question of confidence. He said that the Americans are still in support of the Taif Accord because they do not want to carry on their shoulder the Lebanese crisis.
