Telegrama de Melillia: Spanish Security Arrests over 14,000 Undocumented sub-Saharans at Melillia
Morocco-Spain, Local, 5/17/2003
More than 14,000 undocumented sub-Saharan immigrants have been prevented from entering the Spain-occupied Moroccan city of Melillia by Spanish civil guards since last January.
According to Spanish authorities, quoted by the local paper "Telegrama de Melillia," Moroccan-Spanish cooperation made it possible to considerably reduce the inflow of immigrants. Sub-Saharan illegal immigrants generally hide in the Gourougou mountain forest, 12 km away from the northern city, waiting for an opportunity to stealthily enter the Spain-occupied Moroccan city.
