Spanish papers highlight entente atmosphere within Moroccan-Spanish task groups

Several Spanish papers on Monday highlighted "the good atmosphere of entente" that prevailed in the meetings of the Moroccan-Spanish task groups set up last December to build bilateral relations on solid grounds.

Reporting on the joint press conference held here on Sunday by Morocco's Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Delegated Minister, Taieb Fassi Fihri, and Spanish Secretary of State in charge of External Affairs, Ramon Gil-Casares, several dailies stressed the two countries' "convergence of views" and "firm will" to find "adequate" and "satisfactory" solutions to pending issues.

Spanish papers also brought out Fihri's statement on the need to seek a realistic political breakthrough to the Sahara issue, within Morocco's territorial integrity, while recalling that the Polisario secessionist movement "does not represent the Sahara population, the majority of whom live in the Kingdom's southern provinces."

The Moroccan official, the dailies went on, insisted on Spain's "fundamental role" on the regional and international levels, praising "the frankness" and "goodwill" that marked the work groups' sessions.

In an article titled: Spain and Morocco convene to fully normalize their relations by year end, the large-circulation daily "El Pais" announced a high level encounter in the few coming months, while "la Razon" stressed Rabat-Madrid "common commitment to settle the Sahara issue," highlighting Gil-Casares praise of "the significant progress achieved concerning the migration issue.
