Violence against Women Debated in Cairo

Arab civil society activists are meeting in Cairo to debate violence against women, an issue still hampering the promotion of females status in Arab countries.

The two-day symposium, themed "violence against women: aspects and impacts," is focusing on conjugal violence, sexual harassment and white slave trade. The encounter, sponsored by the Arab women's League, the Arab human rights' organization and other regional and international organizations, is also debating the condition of women in prisons and in zones of conflict.

Problems hindering the action of civil societies to fight violence against women and means to secure legal protection of females in Arab countries are also on the agenda.
