Calls to avert terrorism dangers in Arab region
Regional, Politics, 5/10/2003
Participants to the 5th Arab conference of security information officials which closed in Tunis Thursday called for programs to define the concept of terrorism and means to ward off its dangers, by inciting citizens to back security efforts against the phenomenon.
The conference, organized by the council of Arab ministers of the interior, recommended the consolidation of the role of agencies in charge of security information by providing them with the necessary human and material resources, and of NGOs militating in the field.
On the airing of violent and indecent scenes by Arab TV channels, the conference called for campaigns to foster awareness and for promoting religious education as means to avert the dangers of the phenomenon.
Talks on the creation of an Arab Fund of media production pertaining to security were put off until the necessary studies are carried out.
