Washington calls UN to lift sanctions on Iraq, asks for annual authorizations
The US yesterday asked the UN security council to recognize the American- British occupation of Iraq for one full year and to approve the founding of a fund where oil revenues in Iraq are deposited, and the sums to be spent at a decision by the occupation authorities and in consultation with a provisional Iraqi government which has not been formed yet and is still facing challenges and question marks concerning names and forces proposed to join it.

Syria's President Bashar al-Assad received yesterday Moroccan Minister of Territory Development, Environment and Water, Mohamed El Yazghi. Yazghi handed President Al-Assad a letter from Moroccan King, Mohammed VI pertaining to the current situation in the region, particularly in Iraq and to bilateral relations between the two states. The Jordanian King Abdullah II will visit the US in June to hold talks with the US President George Bush on the implementation of the roadmap, according to a Jordanian official source yesterday. The source did not specify the precise date for the visit but said that the discussions will center on means of implementing the roadmap announced earlier this month and states the foundation of a Palestinian state by the fall of 2005.
