Palestinian group absent of Moroccan festival, failed to obtain Israeli authorization

A Palestinian group of drama arts will not take part in the festival of the Arab drama spring part of "Rabat, capital of Arab culture," held from April 2 to May 27 in Morocco, because its members failed to obtain an Israeli authorization to leave the Palestinian occupied territories.

A release of the general coordinator of the festival said the manager of the Ramallah group apologized for not being able to attend. Palestinians do not have the right to go abroad if they do not obtain an authorization, he said.

"Although the group asked for authorization long before the start of the festival, "we could not obtain it, especially because of a general strike currently staged in Israeli administration," he added.

The play that the Palestinian group was to perform evokes the siege of the Palestinian territories, and the contribution of cultural circles to preserving the Palestinian identity.

Moroccan, Algerian, Iraqi, Libyan, Syrian and Tunisian companies are participating in the Arab drama spring.

The festival will pay homage to several Moroccan and Arab playwrights.
