Saudi Arabia-Russia, Politics, 5/9/2003

The Russian foreign minister Igor Ivanov and his Saudi counterpart prince Saud al-Faisal, currently visiting Moscow called for the implementation of the Roadmap in order to find out a solution for the Palestinian Israeli conflict as soon as possible.

In a press statement after his meeting with al-Faisal, Ivanov said " we have welcomed the delivery of the Roadmap to Israel and the Palestinian authority and we call for the implementation of measures mentioned in this document, completely and quickly."

For his part, the Saudi minister said "we do hope that the process of implementing the plan stated in the roadmap will have a positive effect on the Middle East, as soon as possible."

Talks between the two ministers dealt with several issues mainly the situation in the Arab region, following the collapse of the Iraqi President Saddam Hussein. The Saudi minister said replying to a question on holding a military cooperation with Russia that it is premature to talk about a matter as such.

Al-Faisal announced that the Saudi crown prince Abdullah will visit Moscow in Summer. In a press conference he said concerning the visit of the crown prince to Moscow, "we have agreed that the visit will be made in Summer and will be set later, according to the work program of the Russian President Vladimir Putin." The Saudi crown prince was expected to have visited Moscow in April but his visit was postponed because of the war against Iraq.
