News on the existence of 200 Kuwaiti prisoners alive
Kuwait-Iraq, Politics, 5/8/2003
Tareq al-Mikhyal, the second Kuwaiti citizen who volunteered in search of the Kuwaiti prisoners said that he has documents showing that there are between 150- 200 Kuwaiti prisoners who are still alive in Iraq.
In a press conference he had held at his house on Tuesday evening after his coming back from Iraq, al- Mikhyal said he had found from a remarkable official in the Iraqi leadership documents belong to 350 Kuwaitis out of more than 600 Kuwaiti prisoners. He added that ( showing documents ) that half of this number ( almost 150 persons) were executed in 1991.
Al-Mikhyal refused to disclose the name of the Iraqi official but confined to saying that he had asked for a reward of one million dollars allotted by Kuwait on that matter, adding that he had handed over the documents to the Kuwaiti national committee on prisoners. The committee, however, is an official one, ever criticized by the families of the prisoners and it has already become null after a new committee was formed including parliamentarians and several relatives for the prisoners chaired by the minister of the interior and started its mission in search of the missing during the second Gulf war.
